Water - Drinking and waster water treatment and management

Background

Water management involves ensuring optimum balance between the available water resource and its use. The use of water for the drinking supply involves obligations as much in terms of quantity as in quality. The law of 7 January 2007 and the by-laws which followed indicate the drinkability levels of water (underground and surface) and the quality standards of water intended for human consumption. The French Code for the Environment stipulates the obligations and limits waste water discharge based on the natural environment.

The 'Grenelle de l’Environnement et la Directive Cadre sur L’Eau' agreement ensures commitment from economic players and local authorities on sustainable development both in terms of improved management of the resource and protection and recovery of bodies of water.
