Project description
ANTEA was awarded the project management contract for the drinking water access programme of the 9th European Development Fund (EDF). This programme involves the realization and renovation of around 1700 water sources over a period of 3 – 7 years, the installation of management and maintenance structures, infrastructures and follow-up/backup arrangements, the delivery of measures in sanitary education and promotion of decontamination. ANTEA is more specifically responsible for the economic and social aspect, involving the participation of 2 sociologists and over 40 coordinators and their assistants.
This programme, financed by the European Development Fund (EDF), with the EGIS BCEOM – ANTEA – CIAT group providing the delegated project management, involves the following activities:
- Strengthening the actions of previous EDF programmes in the regions of Chari Baguirmi, Lac and Mayo kebbi, by the renovation of 256 water sources, reviving 2500 water source management committees (CGPE), regrouping these CGPE in local associations of water users (AUE), installation of AUE around the 33 water conveyance systems in rural centres carried out during the previous EDF programme, installation of a private backup structure for these AUE, consolidation of maintenance structures for all rural water sources;
- Realization of around 2,000 new water sources in villages where the population is between 300 and 1200 inhabitants in the regions of Kanem, Batha and Guéra
- Creation of local CGPE and AUE and installation of maintenance structures around these water sources, delivery of sanitary education
- Creation of a database of infrastructure operation monitoring, linked to a SIG
- Identification of a future programme in the region of Mandoul.
ANTEA is in charge of activities relating to the creation/revival of CGPE and AUE, the installation of backup maintenance structures, sanitary education, the realization of identification surveys and estimation of water requirements in the villages of Mandoul.
